Chaleo Yoovidhya, the man behind the magical energy drink formula, Red Bull, died on 17 March 2012 at age 88. At the time of his death, he was listed at the third richest man in Thailand with a net worth of $5 billion and the 205th richest man in the world according to Forbes Magazine's billionaire list. Chaleo was born to extremely poor Chinese immigrants and worked as a salesman until he opened his own company, TC Pharmaceuticals, in 1962. He first developed a drink that became famous among shift workers and drivers but it was only until 1984 when he launched Red Bull with Austrian entrepreneur, Dietrich Mateschitz, that his true success began. Red Bull is now sold in over 70 countries, owns two football clubs and a Formula One team. At the time of his death, Chaleo owned 49% of the franchise, with Mateschitz holding another 49% and Chaleo's son holding the remaining 2%.
